Eligibility
Foreign trained Nurses / Midwives who wish to work in Singapore must be registered/enrolled with SNB.
You must have an offer of employment with eligible healthcare institutions (with inpatient services) in Singapore before SNB can consider your application for registration/enrolment.
The HR of the hospital/institution offering you employment must enquire with SNB via email on their eligibility to employ foreign qualified nurses. Once approved. HRs can then submit application for registration/enrolment on your behalf via online application.
For foreign trained nurses, to be eligible for application for registration/enrolment, you must have the following:
- Completion of a pre-registration / pre-enrolment nursing programme, which is equivalent to an accredited pre-registration / pre-enrolment nursing programme in Singapore (as assessed by SNB);
- nursing/midwifery registration from the country where you are trained; as well as
- current practising license as a nurse or midwife;
- relevant clinical nursing practice in home country within the past 5 years.

Note:
i) All documents submitted to SNB for application for registration/enrolment will be kept by SNB as documentary proof and are not returnable. Any request for copies will not be entertained.
ii) SNB does NOT work with employment agents.
iii) Agents are to work directly with the healthcare institutions’ human resource department.
Documents required for Application for Registration/Enrolment
Employer HRs are required to sight all original documents provided by applicants and ensure that the documents submitted for their applications are indeed true copies of the original.
1) Cover Letter addressed to SNB from employing institution to state:
a) the intention to employ the applicant,
b) the position offered (e.g. Staff Nurse/ Enrolled Nurse)
c) Principal Place of Practice (PoP) where the applicant will be deployed to
2) Pg 11 to 13 (Declaration section) of SNB Application Form (completed and signed)
3) Passport photograph [PDF, 10KB]
4 a) NRIC (front and back) or Passport
b) Work Pass (if applicable)
5) Affidavit/ Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
Note: Marriage Certificate required only if supporting documents submitted included the use of both maiden name and married name. Where there are more than 2 versions of names, please provide an Affidavit instead.
6) Transcript of nursing education from training school/college/university (to include detailed breakdown of theory and clinical practice in hours or weeks)
7) Training certificate(s) / Graduation Certificates
8) Registration certificate
9) Current nursing license / practising certificate(s)
10) Evidence of past employment (employer HR will provide more information on how to submit this)
11) Service gap letter written by applicant if there is a service gap of more than 1 year from the date registered to current (if applicable)
Note:
i) For any documents submitted:
(a) Direct colour-scanned documents of at least 300 dpi are preferred. Grayscale copies (at least 300 dpi) are also acceptable.
(b) Copies of documents submitted must be clear and all pages of documents must be seen and not cropped.
ii) Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a certified official translation in English.
iii) If employer HRs are not able to physically sight the original documents, these documents will then need to be officially certified as "true copies" of the original by Notary Public and shall bear the stamp "Certified as true copy of the original" (CTC).
CTC must:
• be initialled on every page of the document by the authorized officer (Notary Public or lawyer)
• include the name of authorized officer (full name), signature, date of certification and the notarization must be made in English.
iv) Documents which are not acceptable to SNB will delay the processing of the application.
Fees
The following SNB Fees are applicable:
a) Application Fee for Registration/Enrolment (to be paid upon online application)
b) Registration/Enrolment Fee (to be paid upon approval)
c) Application for Practising Certificate Fee (to be paid upon approval)
Verification of Registration
The following verification of registration is required to verify that you are registered as a nurse/midwife and that no disciplinary proceedings have been taken or are pending against you:
- from the nursing registration authority in the country of your first registration, as well as
- from the nursing registration authority in each country that you had practised nursing/midwifery (if applicable)
You are required to make the request with each nursing regulatory authority and the verification must be sent directly to SNB either:
• By email directly to SNB_Verifications@spb.gov.sg (preferred) via nursing regulatory authority’s official email. The sender needs to include full name and designation.
Documents must be sent via the institution’s official email account. Non-official email accounts such as gmail, Yahoo mail, etc. will not be accepted.
OR
• via mail to SNB Operating Office addressed to Registrar, Singapore Nursing Board.
Verification of Transcripts of Nursing Education
Verification of transcripts of nursing education is required to provide evidence that you have acquired the nursing/midwifery education that you have listed on your Application Form.
Transcripts Must include detailed breakdown for theory and clinical practice in hours or weeks.
You are required to make the request with the educational/training institution(s) and the transcripts must be sent directly to SNB either:
• By email directly to SNB_Verifications@spb.gov.sg (preferred) via nursing regulatory authority’s official email. The sender needs to include full name and designation.
Documents must be sent via the institution’s official email account. Non-official email accounts such as gmail, Yahoo mail, etc. will not be accepted.
OR
• via mail to SNB Operating Office addressed to Registrar, Singapore Nursing Board.
Application Process
The application for registration/enrolment process includes the requirement to:
- sit for a Licensure Examination;
- undergo a competency assessment; and/or
- placed on provisional registration/enrolment.
Outcome of Application
The SNB will inform you through your employing healthcare institution of the outcome of your application after we have made our assessment.
Please note that we will not provide outcome of registration applications directly to individual applicants. Applicants are required to contact their employing healthcare institution.
