[Update] SNB has reviewed the “Guidelines for Agency Nurses/ Midwives and Nursing Agencies Engaging Them” and some amendments have been made to the Guideline.
Amendments made as follow:
a) Title of the guideline has changed and is now known as “Guidelines for Agency Nurses/ Midwives and Nursing Agencies Engaging Them (including Companies Supplying Nursing Manpower)”.
b) Definition of Agency Nurse/ Midwives
• Agency Nurses/ Midwives refers to those nurses/ midwives who have a contract for service with nursing agencies or companies that supply nursing/ midwifery manpower.
• These agency nurses/ midwives can be deployed to provide care to clients in healthcare institutions to supplement nursing manpower or to provide nursing/ midwifery care to clients in their own homes and/ or any setting.
c) Criteria for Agency Nurses/ Midwives
• all Registered Nurses (RNs), Enrolled Nurses (ENs) and Registered Midwives (RMWs) working as agency nurses/ midwives must have:
i. a current General registration/ enrolment with SNB;
ii. current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and/ or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator (CPR & AED).
• In addition, a minimum of 1 year inpatient clinical experience is required for those agency nurses/ midwives practising in the following areas:
i. homecare settings (with or without other nurses);
ii. settings whereby there is minimal or no nursing supervision;
iii. settings whereby he/ she is the only nurse/ midwife (without any medical supervision).
