Section 15I(1) of the Dentists Regulations states that Council may refuse to renew the practising certificate if the registered dentist fails to fulfil the requisite CPE points.
(b) Compulsory BCLS Certification
Please note that for the renewal of practising certificates due on 31 Dec 2011 onwards, all registered dental practitioners are required to have a valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. It is the onus of the dental professional to submit a copy of the valid BCLS Certificate to Council online and they should submit as a new CPE claim under category 1C (Certification).
The attendance for BCLS will also be considered as a core CPE activity from 1 Oct 2009 onwards.
For dentists who are unable to perform the practical BCLS, they are required to submit a medical certificate which exempts them from such activities. However, they will still be required to undergo and pass the theory component of the BCLS course. (refer to announcement made on 20 Aug 2013)
The BCLS (practical) age requirement has been revised. Dentists who are 55 years old and above (lowered from the previous 60 years old and above) are exempted from the practical BCLS, but they are still required to pass and submit the theoretical BCLS.
To find out more about BCLS training centres, please refer to the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) website, https://srfac.sg.
Note:
To submit your BCLS certification, please login and submit under Category 1C (Certification).
