Information for Public / Patients

The functions of the Singapore Medical Council (“SMC”) include determining and regulating the conduct and ethics of doctors and the standards of practice and the competence of doctors within the medical profession.

One of the SMC’s roles is to administer the disciplinary process when complaints are made against doctors. Under the Medical Registration Act, complaints can be made about:

(a)   the conduct of a doctor in his professional capacity or his improper act or conduct which brings disrepute to his profession;

(b)   the professional services provided by a doctor not being of the quality which is reasonable to expect of him; or

(c)   the physical or mental fitness of a doctor to practise.

If you wish to make a complaint to the SMC about a doctor, you can submit a written complaint, supported by a Statutory Declaration.
