Dear doctors

1. It was brought to the Singapore Medical Council’s (SMC) attention recently that doctors had received automated phone call voice messages purportedly to be from one of the healthcare institutions and informing the doctor that his/her registration or practising certificate would be cancelled soon. The “caller” further instructed the doctor to press some numbers on the dial pad for further information.

 

2. The SMC would like to clarify that it does not contact registered doctors via such telephone calls. SMC communicates with doctors via emails sent from the SMC enquiry email address at SMC@spb.gov.sg  on registration and practising certificate (PC) matters.

 

3. Registered doctors are further advised to log in to the Professional Registration System (PRS) on the SMC’s website to check their registration and PC validity status.  If they receive messages purportedly from the institution in which they are employed, they should also check directly with the institution’s HR or with their employers.

 

4. Lastly, SMC reminds doctors to stay vigilant against scam calls or emails and do not click or scan suspicious links / QR codes. If you receive such scam calls or emails, you are advised to contact the Police at their anti-scam helpline at 1800-722-6688 or go to www.scamalert.sg.
