The Competency Assessment/Examination is an evaluation of your knowledge and understanding of topics that form the core knowledge required by a newly registered pharmacist for effective professional pharmacy practice. The results of this assessment/examination will be taken into consideration by the training centres in the overall evaluation of the candidate for completion of pre-registration training. This assessment/examination is to be taken by both local and foreign trained pre-registration pharmacists.
With effect from 1 September 2018, please note that there will be a revision to the format and syllabus of the Competency Assessment/Examination.
- Assessment/Examination Paper Format:
- There will be a total of 100 questions and 40 questions (increased from 28 questions) will be case-based.
- The time allocated is 2 hours (increased from 1 hour 55 minutes).
- Revision to Assessment/Examination Syllabus:
- The weightage for questions are approximately: 85% Pharmaceutical Care and 15% Pharmacy Ethics, Pharmacy Systems and Procedures. (no change)
- Topics “Allergic Rhinitis” (previously under Respiratory) and “Eczema” (previously under Dermatological) are re-categorised under “Allergy Management”.
- Three new topics are added to Pharmaceutical Care section (core topics in brackets):
- “Dementia” (Mental Health),
- “Erectile Dysfunction” (Men & Women’s Health); and
- “Meningitis” (Infectious Diseases).
