Licensure

All candidates taking the OT Examination (MCQ) must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and hold a valid practising certificate issued by the SMC.

Accredited Training

All candidates must have good standing in an ACGME-I accredited graduate medical education programme or an approved alternative.

Eligibility for the OT Examination (MCQ) is as follows, to be fulfilled at the time of sitting for the exam:

a) Completion of 48 months of residency training

b) Passed the Masters of Medicine (ORL) Examination

c) Accepted into R5 of the Senior Residency Programme

Both OT Examination (MCQ) and MMed (ORL) Examination are required for residents to be eligible for OT Examination (Oral).  All 3 Exams are required for Exit Certification.

The full-time residency training must fulfill all accredited training requirements set forth by ACGME-I and those specified under Singapore’s Country Addendum.

Residents are expected to be competent in the six (6) ACGME-I General Competencies:

• Patient care and procedural skills,
• Medical knowledge,
• Practice-based learning and improvement,
• Interpersonal and communication skills,
• Professionalism and
• Systems-based practice.
   

Verification of the fulfilment of these requirements will be provided by the Programme Directors.

Attestation of Good Standing and Clinical Performance

The Programme Director will assess competence and performance in the six (6) ACGME-I General Competencies.  As part of the evaluations, attestation of a candidate’s good standing and clinical performance by the relevant Programme Director is required. Such attestation can be in the form of the Programme Director’s endorsement of the candidate’s performance.

The responsibility for the evaluation a candidate’s clinical competence and moral and ethical behaviour rests with the Programme Director or the RAC, and not with MOH. MOH is not in a position to re-examine the facts and circumstances of an individual's performance. As required by ACGME-I in its Institutional Requirements, Section (II)(D)(4)(e), the Sponsoring Institution must provide appropriate due process for its decisions regarding a trainee's performance. Change in Eligibility Status

If a candidate’s eligibility for the examination changes between the date of submission of the application and the scheduled examination date, the candidate must notify MOH promptly. Failure to notify, the candidate may no longer be eligible to take the examination and may result in a determination of irregular behaviour. [see "Irregular Behaviour on Examination"]
